Incorporating environmental variability in a spatially-explicit individual-based model of European sea bass✰

چکیده
The northern stock of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) is a large, high value, slow growing and late maturing fish that an important target species for both commercial recreational fisheries. Around the UK, scientific assessments have shown rapid eight-year decline in spawning biomass since 2010 attributed to poor recruitment; this was likely driven by environmental factors fishing mortality. Management informed which population model fitted available data used forecast possible consequences various catch options. However, currently cannot represent spatial distribution or any effects variability. One approach may be temporal variation drivers with Individual based models (IBMs). In IBMs populations are represented their constituent individuals interact environment each other. mechanistic nature often advantageous as management tool complex systems including Here we add existing IBM produce spatio-temporally explicit individual respond local food supply surface temperature. All life stages (i.e., pelagic stages, juvenile mature fish) modelled own realistic energy budgets observed dynamic maps phytoplankton density calibrated using Approximate Bayesian Computation (ABC). After calibration ABC gives good fits key parameters biomass. provides link between supplies temperatures overall dynamics. Recruitment in Degraded Marine Habitats: A Spatially Explicit, Individual-Based Model for Spiny Lobster
Coastal habitats that serve as nursery grounds for numerous marine species are badly degraded, yet the traditional means of modeling populations of exploited marine species handle spatiotemporal changes in habitat characteristics and life history dynamics poorly, if at all. To explore how nursery habitat degradation impacts recruitment of a mobile, benthic species, we developed a spatially expl...
متن کاملReconstructing the 2003/2004 H3N2 influenza epidemic in Switzerland with a spatially explicit, individual-based model
UNLABELLED world has not faced a severe pandemic for decades, except the rather mild H1N1 one in 2009, pandemic influenza models are inherently hypothetical and validation is, thus, difficult. We aim at reconstructing a recent seasonal influenza epidemic that occurred in Switzerland and deem this to be a promising validation strategy for models of influenza spread. METHODS We present a spatia...

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Individual variation and repeatability in aerobic and anaerobic swimming performance of European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax.
Studies of inter-individual variation in fish swimming performance may provide insight into how selection has influenced diversity in phenotypic traits. We investigated individual variation and short-term repeatability of individual swimming performance by wild European sea bass in a constant acceleration test (CAT). Fish were challenged with four consecutive CATs with 5 min rest between trials...
متن کاملRelationships among Traits of Aerobic and Anaerobic Swimming Performance in Individual European Sea Bass Dicentrarchus labrax
Teleost fishes exhibit wide and temporally stable inter-individual variation in a suite of aerobic and anaerobic locomotor traits. One mechanism that could allow such variation to persist within populations is the presence of tradeoffs between aerobic and anaerobic performance, such that individuals with a high capacity for one type of performance have a reduced capacity for the other. We inves...
